Professor Cary L. Cooper of Lancaster University Management School in the UK has just been appointed as Chair of the prestigious Academy of the Social Sciences as of July 1, 2009. 
 

This is the umbrella scholarly association for all the learned societies in the social sciences (eg.psychology, sociology, management, economics, etc.).  Professor Cooper has also been identified by HR Magazine in Europe as the 6th Most Influential Thinker in HR for 2009.
